ok listen. this phone has survived war and famine within my loud Italian family household. this phone has lived with us since the dawn of time. bros been with us since 2019. i was looking through my dads old amazon purchases and i was like oh what’s this. and it’s our literal HOUSE PHONE. I was like omg no way this thing has survived us for so long. apparently my dad bought this same phone in 2009 and then bought it again in 2019. dude like buy it. it has survived us so long, it will for you too. it has survived falling off the story tower of a desk my mom has, and much more. i can’t think of a better phone get it please. this is a true story i pinky promise, we have so many memories with this phone. anyways get the phone <3

Disabling the Second Phone Line
This is a great phone with a lot of features. I use a headset with the phone which uses a 2.5mm headset vice the 3.5mm set you use with you cell phones, music devices, etc. There are a couple of the things that bothered me just a little bit, but not enough to downgrade my review.Volume control: volume adjustment is easy with the push buttons near the bottom. Just would have liked it to have more volume range (there are just 4 levels). Granted I'm old with tinnitus, but just something to think about. Using my headset helps with that.Disabling the second line. Others have commented on this but in my home office I just use one line for my voice, the other is for fax and I want it that way. The problem, which isn't really a problem but is annoying from a "user interface" perspective is that when no line is plugged into the second line jack, the phone screen flashes back and forth between line busy or line unplugged. The other thing that happens is the red line 2 select button stays illuminated red which is the indication for "in use". Since the user manual doesn't provide a way to disable the displays/light or disable the line, I had to rely on some plain-old-telephone systems (POTS) "magic" to come up with a solution. What I did was get an old 48v DC wall wart and solder the red and black wires to the blue and blue/white wires in a Cat5 cable that I had an RJ11 plug crimped on to (these blue and blue/white wires go in the center two slots of the RJ11 jack). This works because the POTS design is setup so that when 48v DC is applied to the phone circuit, the phone registers this as "on hook". When the line is "off hook" the voltage drops to around the 5-10v range and you would hear a dial-tone supplied by the phone company once the circuit was available.Once I wired this up and plugged it into the line 2 jack of the phone, the line 2 select button light went out and the line just states, "0 new calls". Tried it in both phone jacks and it worked perfectly in either jack.

Updated 6/2017 If you work from home and want a good setup using comfortable gaming headset, get these...
Very nice. Let me start off by saying this: I did have a buzzing noise when I first used this phone, but that was as the phone company was setting up my line and having me test it. As soon as they connected the grounding wires to the boxes (outside), the buzzing noise went away.I work from home, so it was important for me to have a good and easy to use phone with a few features. The speaker phone is crystal clear, the handset is as well. I am using a headset through an rj9 adapter so I can use my Logitech gaming headset (much more comfortable than the standard call center style headset), but this phone does have a 2.5 mm port for headsets as well. I am only using one line at the moment, so line 2 stays lit up saying it's "not in use or not connected". Not really an issue; it doesn't distract me or anything. The caller id screen lights up so bright that I don't really mind that the keys are not back lit. I'll be buying a few more of these phones as backup in the near future.Update 2017About a year ago, I found the Headset Buddy Female RJ9/RJ22 to Male 2.5mm Headset Adapter (RJ9-PH25) and have been using my Logitech G430 Surround Sound Gaming Headset with Dolby 7.1 Technology headset. It actually works better than any setup I've had, and the range of sound gives me higher highs and lower lows than a previous setup that included a Jabra amplifier. I no longer use the amplifier and have better control over the volume of my calls (both microphone and speakers).Update 6/2017Yeah, still 5 stars. I have no complaints about this phone. When the power goes out, the screen doesn't work anymore, but the phone does still work. If you work from home, this is the setup I had that worked so well...AT&T ML17929 2-Line Corded Telephone, BlackLogitech G430 Surround Sound Gaming Headset with Dolby 7.1 Technology (don't get the USB version, although this comes with a USB adapter for computer use)Headset Buddy: Female RJ9/RJ22 to Male 2.5mm Headset Adapter (01-RJ9-PH25)VONOTO 3.5mm to RJ9 Audio Adapter Cable - 3.5mm audio female socket to RJ9 Modular Plug Adapter Cable for connecting your own Analog Headphone to chatWith this setup, you won't even need the amplifiers that some of those companies send, customers won't be asking you to repeat yourself and you won't have issues hearing them, and you'll be using a very comfortable headset that's far better than any of the call center headsets out there.
